Wagon Hill Farm

I have driven by Wagon Hill Farm in Durham, NH countless numbers of times but I have never had the opportunity to shoot it until now. Wagon Hill Farm is off the side of the road in Durham, NH, a college town that is home to UNH. My wife went to school there as did my brother a years prior, so I had become somewhat familiar with the area. The farm has become a hot spot for winter sledding, weddings, and just for anyone looking to go for a walk. Off the side of the road is several acres of farmland with trees, hills, and the coast directly behind it. The point of interest however is a lone wagon up on top of the hill. It is bare with no tress or anything directly next to it. The wagon is a showcase in and of itself.

I decided to take a some sunrise photos of the farm one morning. It was the beginning of April in New England, which means it is still 30 degrees outside. I arrived at the site around 5:20 am, with sunrise at 6. I wanted to give myself plenty of time to get familiar with the area and find out what side of the hill and wagon the sun would appear. I know its somewhat sacrilegious In the photo world to to not do any homework on the subject that you are shooting…but this was kind of spur of the moment and also my first time shooting this particular area. The day itself was beautiful, clear skies, no real cold breeze, but certainly still had to dress warm. Being by myself the area felt tranquil and there is something to be said about being in nature alone to truly appreciate what is around you. As I look up the hill I see the lone wagon and tree providing a beauty in its simplicity. When I finished, I saw plenty of dogs and their owners going out for walks, and enjoying the great scenery that I had the pleasure to see for myself. It was a great morning, the photos came out wonderful, and I will returning there again to explore more of the farm in the future.
